2018 Summer Gala

Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane W1K 7TN

The WIA celebrated their 58th year in service to the under-served on the 26th of May 2018 at the Great Room of the Grosvenor House, Mayfair.

Attended by 500 friends and supporters from the UK and around the globe, it was a glamourous and spectacular evening. The men in dapper black tie escorted the beautifully gowned ladies. It was an evening of fabulous entertainment, food, drink, dance and fundraising.  The events of the evening were preceded by a champagne reception allowing our guests to mingle and catchup before being seated at their respective tables. The entertainment for the evening was provided by the London Cabaret Company with acts by dancers, aerialists and trapezists.

Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades encouraged our guests to bid generously for the vast array of live auction items. In addition, there were highly coveted items offered as a part of a silent auction, along with pledges and donations from our esteemed guests that added to the funds raised.

Maestro Talat Aziz treated us by singing a number of beautiful ghazals that enthralled the audience and Bina Aziz displayed a curated selection of paintings which were presented at the event and were sold to potential buyers. The profits of these paintings were then directed to WIA UK.

The event was attended by HE Girija Sinha, Lord and Lady Paul, the Hindujas, Lord and Lady Ranger, Director par excellence Gurinder Chadha, cricketing legends Chris Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara, and the Chief guest for the evening , film star Sonakshi Sinha along with many members of London society and from other parts of the world.

The profits from the Vintage Glamour Ball were in excess of £80,000, which are all going towards bettering the lives of the people from the charities the WIA UK supports.
