Sangam
About Sangam
Sangam is a not-for-profit charity founded in the 1960s and managed by Asian women who provide a range of services to help the local community. Sangam is a non-religious, non-political organisation open to all in the community who seek their help. Sangam depends on Government funding for its initiatives such as Domestic Violence counselling for women, men and young people. The Advice Centre is the core activity of Sangam which provides free information, advice and support to all communities who live, work or study in the Boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Harrow.
The WIA has been involved with Sangam’s programme on “Debt Management” /personal budgeting in the local area since its inception. The objective of the project is to help prevent the economically vulnerable people from slipping into debt and forever staying in debt, by providing them training in the techniques and procedures involved in balancing personal income and expenditure, thereby building the individual confidence and resilience to deal with financial and other issues associated with day to day living.
Project Maitri is our newest joint endeavor with our long term charity partner, Sangam, bringing together our UK-based charities to work together under the umbrella “Maitri”. WIA provides the financial support to extend the outreach, providing Asian family Couselling, Pro Bono Legal Counselling and the weekly distribution of food to the hungry, out of Sangam’s existing premises in North London.
