Nishkam SWAT London
About Nishkam SWAT London
Founded in 2008 by Randeep Lall, his first project was a youth club offering regular workshops on substance awareness, informal talks on the Sikh and other faiths and encouraging the children to engage in group discussions and debates on current issues they are facing today such as gang culture, drug addiction, and alcohol abuse. A football academy and a Mixed martial arts academy were established for the youth to create awareness about benefits of exercise and sports education.
In 2009 SWAT founded the homeless project in Southall when 200 homeless people were discovered with no one taking responsibility for them. SWAT has expanded to provide food for the homeless, every single day of the week at different locations in central London. Each evening, between 150 and 250 people gather in an orderly queue and are served a hot meal and a hot drink with love and respect by SWAT volunteers. The community spirit that SWAT have created at their food distribution location points is truly inspiring. SWAT also helps people by referring them to other services.
The WIA has supported SWAT’s “feeding the homeless” project since 2012 sponsoring food and clothing one Thursday a month at Charing Cross. The WIA Trustees and members are regular volunteers.
