Nishkam SWAT London
Founded in 2008 by Randeep Lall, his first project was a youth club offering regular workshops on substance awareness, informal talks on the Sikh and other faiths and encouraging the children to engage in group discussions and debates on current issues they are facing today such as gang culture, drug addiction, and alcohol abuse. A football academy and a Mixed martial arts academy were established for the youth to create awareness about benefits of exercise and sports education.
Joint Women Program (JWP)
Project Mera Sahara is one of the most successful endeavours undertaken by the Joint Women’s Programme. Supported by The WIA UK. Currently since its inception, thirteen years ago. This project started in 2007 with minimal resources.
Currently, the Centre provides schooling (upto class 5) and crèche facilities along with running an adult literacy programme for young adults and women, which includes training in legal literacy and political empowerment. It also has a skill development centre which provides different types of skill-based classes to women, including computer and tailoring.
Vidya Bhavishya Yaan
The WIA UK has supported Vidya, our charity partner of 25 years, in bringing Bhavishya yaan, a programme available free of charge to children in municipal schools of classes 5- 10. We like to think of it as the “icing on a cake” in real life. VIDYA’s Bhavishya-Yaan program under the ‘school partnership’ banner aims at adding on and filling the gaps in holistic education for sections of students in municipal schools.
The need for enhanced spoken English skills, life-skills and computer skills in vernacular medium schools, led to the conceptualisation of Bhavishya-Yaan – a program in collaboration with Rotary Club of Bombay, that now runs successfully in 8 BMC Schools across Mumbai.
Sangam
Sangam is a not-for-profit charity founded in the 1960s and managed by Asian women who provide a range of services to help the local community. Sangam is a non-religious, non-political organisation open to all in the community who seek their help.
Sangam depends on Government funding for its inititatives such as Domestic Violence counselling for women, men and young people. The Advice Centre is the core activity of Sangam which provides free information, advice and support to all communities who live, work or study in the Boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Harrow.
