About Joint Women’s Programme (JWP)
Mera Sahara, has been funded since 2013, and caters to children of disadvantaged families and migrant workers. It provides primary education, creche facilities, an adult literacy centre and vocational training. Women are made aware of their legal rights and political empowerment. Here the local communities feel safe to take advice, learn skills, leave their children for extra tuitions and women can discuss domestic issues leaving them empowered to care for themselves.
Project Mera Sahara is one of the most successful endeavours undertaken by the Joint Women’s Programme. Supported by The WIA UK. Currently since its inception, thirteen years ago. This project started in 2007 with minimal resources. Currently, the Centre provides schooling (upto class 5) and crèche facilities along with running an adult literacy programme for young adults and women, which includes training in legal literacy and political empowerment. It also has a skill development centre which provides different types of skill-based classes to women, including computer and tailoring.
